ISFDB status

The ISFDB server went down on Saturday 2008-03-08 some time after 9pm (Texas, i.e. Central US time, used throughout this post). It came up on Sunday night shortly before midnight and went down again on Monday around 4pm. It has been down ever since except for its static pages which can be found at http://marc.kupper.googlepages.com/getyourisfdbfixhere. (Note that these pages are often obsolete.)

At this time we expect the ISFDB to remain down until at least Monday (2008-03-17) morning.

ISFDB was resurrected around 23:30 server time on Sunday night and immediately came under a spambot attack. It then went down again around 00:30. In case it comes back in the next few hours, please '''do not''' try to block the spam accounts -- due to a known bug in our (ancient) version of the Wiki software, this may block '''all''' users! We will have to revisit the issue of protecting certain pages, but the ultimate answer is to upgrade our Wiki software, which will give us the ability to distinguish between humans and bots. Now that the TAMU staff is (presumably) back, Al may be able to get a better sense of when the long promised upgrade may happen. Hopefully.

We are back up again as of 00:35am or so and still under spambot attack. I am not sure if the TAMU folks are still working on the server. I see that the indomitable Chris J. is back to editing :)
